LIT Project (coming up)

Centre Unicura will collaborate with Inuit youth (12-35) in communities across northern Québec, including Inukjuak, Puvirnituq, Kuujjuaraapik, and Umiujaq, to deliver youth-led workshops to strengthen Inuit culture and heritage.

Over the course of 2021 -2023, the Learning Inuit Tradition Project will offer Inuit youth in communities across Northern Québec, opportunities to connect, share and learn from each other. Through the LIT project, Inuit and BPOC (Black, People of colour) youth will deliver and implement workshops to increase participants’ sense of belonging to Inuit culture. These workshops will provide opportunities for Inuit youth to be involved and engaged in their communities, to learn about their heritage and culture, and to connect with different communities.

The purpose of this project is to counter the violence Inuit folks encounter in their daily lives by offering safe and brave spaces where youth can access a network of peers, learn healthy living practices and reconnect with their cultural identities. Youth facilitators will implement workshops related to decolonization and anti-oppression, food & wellness, traditional song and dance. By the end of the LIT project, young people will have gained knowledge, tools and a network of peers to rely on as they navigate the very complicated and harmful barriers in place in their communities.

Let’s continue the work and make a difference in the community.
